Key Prevention Strategies

Safer Prescribing

Opioids are important medications and have necessary reasons for use. Our coalition is working to ensure local providers adopt and implement guidelines to protect patients, help prescribers understand the importance of safer prescribing and pain management education.

SAfe Disposal

Improper disposal of medication and sharps poses serious health and safety threats, including potential for misuse and abuse of expired or no longer needed medications. Our coalition partners work hard to help the community know how to dispose of medications safely. There are several medication  disposal sites throughout the county, Take Away envelopes, and DEA Take Back Days.

Medication Assisted Treatment

(MAT)

As a county with limited medical resources our coalition is working with neighboring and internal agencies to provide immediate resources and is moving towards increasing the number of MAT providers in the county and to establish a referral system to meet the local needs.

Our coalition strives to provide information throughout our community to increase awareness of opioid and substance use, Narcan, safe disposal, treatment and support resources.  We give presentations througout our community to various agencies,   organizations, businesses,  youth, parents, caregivers, community members, Spanish speaking community members, and anyone wanting information.
