What is Carfentanil?

Carfentanil is a synthetic opioid that is 10,000 times more potent than morphine and 100 times more potent than fentanyl. Originally developed as a tranquilizer for large animals like elephants, it is not approved for human use due to its extreme potency.

Even a few micrograms—an amount smaller than a grain of salt—can cause overdose or death. Carfentanil is often found illegally mixed with other drugs, especially heroin or counterfeit pills, without users' knowledge.
