First recorded death from animal tranquilizer xylazine reported in Santa Cruz County

SANTA CRUZ, Calif. —

The veterinary tranquilizer xylazine, commonly known as tranq, was listed as the cause of death of a 35-year-old woman in Santa Cruz. It was the first time tranq poisoning was listed as the cause of death in Santa Cruz County, according to the Health Services Agency Leeper said.
